HI A BLOKE JUST OFFERED TO SELL AN EA SINGLE POINT 3SPEED AUTO, PROBLEM IS THE FAN BELT LET GO AND IT COOKED!, NOW IT WONT GO FARTHER THAN 5 KM BEFORE IT GOES IN THE RED ON THE TEMP GAUGE. IVE HERD THAT THESE EA FALCONS HAD A SEVERE HEAD/OVERHEATING PROBLEM, IS THIS TRUE AND CAN IT BE OVERCOME ? .....THANKS

Be ultra polite, but Run a Mile, mate.

Yes, it can be fixed, but it'll cost about $700...plus the price of the car. Head gaskets and sand in the new OHC head casting were rumoured to be the problem. The issue is, the head must be refaced and a new gasket supplied, and there may be an issue with the block face. Valves and guides should be done too.

A full flush out of the block and cooling system will be needed. But it'll cost, and I'd say the core engine and periferals may be on there way out. It needs an EB multi point, 4-speed auto, and some TLC.

Know if he paid you $700 for you to take it of his hands, then I say go for it!

ab,
XECUTE is right. An EA overheated and faulty is not worth anything.
The cost of repairs could be considerable.
There also was a lot of EAs in this country that had main bearing faults and wear out the crankshaft.
The first thing the driver knew there was a problem was when the car spat off the fan belt and the car overheated!
It may be worth looking at a rebuilt engine for this car.
And fitted with all that entails will be expensive.
Some though is required before purchase.
Noel.
