EFI cylinder head porting.

Hello all. I've started porting my EFI head and noticed something interesting. In the top left corner of every intake port there is a "bulge" of carbon deposit. I checked out the lower intake manifold and this is the exact spot the fuel injector sits above. The Fel-Pro manifold gasket set I bought has a double steel faced gasket that's one piece for the exhaust AND intake manifolds, but the oval intake ports actually cover this "bulge" when you line it up on the side of the head. My question is, should I carve this bulge out of the head with the die grinder and modify the gasket to fit?

Btw, notice where I started grinding down around exhaust port 6 (right)around the air injector bung. Compare it to exhaust port five (left).[/img]

Dude, before you start putting like actual man hours into that head, you may want to go and get it magna fluxed and checked for cracks, because by your pic, it looks like that thing has seen better days. If it is cracked however, you might just be able to save yourself some time, because usually when you buy a new head, the company that recons them usually cleans up the intake and exhaust runners( at least they did on mine, and 2 other guys i know). however, about your question, i have no answer, infact, i am gonna wait now to put my motor in because i hadn't noticed a bulge, and if it needs to be removed, then thats what is gonna happen, good luck

Its OK to have the head port a little larger than the intake port. This is actually preffered since it creates a reversion barrier.

What you have to make sure of is that you have enough metal there to remove the bulge.
