EFI Throttle Body, Ford OEM

John, or...

Anyone know what the twin throttle plate diameters are on the 302, 351, and 460MFI intakes? :?: (Got to fab new EFI runners anyway, to get them off the top of the valve cover & moved over to the right, to fit up to a large inline liquid-to-air intercooler. Larger TB seems almost a bolt-on, comparatively.) TIA

I'm going with the TB from the 4.6 Cobra, 2 x 57mm inside an oval inlet, which means a single tube between the TB and MAF.The Edelbrock 460 is 2 x 56mm two separate tubes on a common plate same as the stock unit, needing a 2 in 1 "Y" between the TB and MAF. With a little planning, cutting and fittingboth could use stock plumbing TB / MAF / Air filter.
Some times when seeking info this turns into a jerk around. The 3.8 V-6 people say no problem they have SC engine at ~ 400hp, then I go looking for an EFI wiring harness I'm told, "You can go that way you need to buy our $2,500 -2,800 fully tunable system.
Some times it seems "smoke and mirrors and a little nucleur physics" that
we are keep ignorant deliberately.

My $0.02; if you're considering stock EFI, go to http://www.sctuner.net

And I'd look for a book by Bentley publishers, written by Charles O. Probst. It's the bible for Ford's EEC-IV, and is a two book series. The first covers 1980 to 1987 cars (which I have) with the MAP sensor, the second covers 1988 to 1993 cars with the MAF. You can find it on Amazon.com, if no where else.

It's called something like "How to Service, Modify and Tune Ford EEC-IV" and each book has a picture of a Mustang on the front. Hope this helps.

These should be the books you are talking about, from the forum (before crash)

How to Understand and Modify Ford Fuel Injection and Electronic Engine Controls Vol 1
80-87
ISBN 0-8376-0302-1

and same title Vol 2
88-95
ISBN 0-8376-0301-3
Probst, Charles O.

now if only I discovered a way to stop time and had money to actually BUY them, I would be in business.

I'm looking at TBI's as a retrofit on my 84 f150 with a 300 andI've been looking at the Ford CFI and the GM TBI and I really don't see any difference between the TBI's themselves so why couldn't I use the EEC-IV system which my truck uses now with the feedback carb. and use the GM TBI mainly becuase they are cheaper and easier to find , as a matter of fact I can pick one up for free

My $.02 worth ... for what its worth.

We milled the top of the log and installed an adapter plate set up to accept a 3.8L GM TBI. I plan to get a signal from the DSII. Not sure if there will be much of a HP increase, but since this is a daily driver, I want to enjoy those easy start-ups on 5 below zero days.

Thanks,
Dave

I ran into a guy here at work who runs a couple of sand bugies and he has had some experience with the TBIs and he says they swapped a GM TBI with the Ford TBI as the GM TBI would pass more CFM, apparently as Ford and GM both bought the rights to the same Robert Bosch systems they at least initially remained identical, he did tell me to look for a model 700 TBI as its supposedly better and more rebuildable.

I've noticed that running bigger throttle bodies is not the same as a bigger carb would be. You could easily run a pair of stock Mustang 65mm throttles and get all the top end you want with out a loss of bottom end.

To be honest, if your going to use a 65mm TB, why not go with a Lincon 80mm TB? I know a guy that put one on his 3.0L SHO V6 with good results.
