I posted part of this in the electrical area, but here goes...
I just bought a 16" fan on ebay and was wondering how to wire the thing. Im thinkin just to a switch to turn it on and off. What wires, switches etc should I get and where do they wire up????
ALSO
Should I mount the fan on the front of the radiator or in the engine bay with the motor?? Its interchangable but I wonder which way is best. Lemme know guys!

fans are more efficient behind the radiator pulling the air through. Many parts stores have thermal switches for their brand of electric fans that will work with the one you bought. Just be sure you get the one you want, some are preset and other switches have an adjustment on them for when they turn on and off.

so would u get rid of the stock fan or use both the stock and the electric fan, and would there be enough room between the existing fan and radiator to stick an electric fan in? or could u put the electric on the outside to push the air while the stock pulls the air.

Im gettin rid of the stock fan alltogether. But Im thinkin of just getting a manual switch. I still dunno what to do bout wiring. Please help guys

I'd wire the positive lead of the fan to the battery side of the starter relay/solenoid. Then switch the negative fan wire to ground, preferably with a thermal switch fastened to the radiator. If you want an indicator light to let you know when the fan is running, wire it in parallel to the fan motor. A fuseable link in the positive wire is a good idea, but I'd be leary about using a fuse holder & fuse. If using a fuse, I'd use a 40 or 50 amp fuse to protect against the wire getting grounded somehow.

send me your e-mail address and I'll send you the schematics. I just installed a 16" with a thermal switch, deleting the stock mechanical fan. I had to put the fan in front due to the lack of space on the other side(1963 Futura). Even then, I had to do some major modifications to make it fit. 16" is really big once you try putting it in there. If I were going to keep the stock one running as well, I would have opted for a smaller electrical one and had an easier install (less mods). The 16" is so big, all has been fine as far as cooling thus far.

You can also do this:
Go to the autoparts store and buy a 30 amp or 70 amp automotive relay. Then come back here and post the numbers that you see on the pins. These numbers will be something like 30, 85, 86, 87, 87a or similar. Each one has a specific purpose. Then I can post back to you, telling you where to hook each wire for a fan system.

Also, get a 20 amp fuse and holder. Checker and Auto Zone carry all this stuff. For maximum efficiency, go to NAPA and get their 'adjustable temperature switch' device, the one with the 'temperature sensing bulb'. I'll explain then how to install it without opening up hoses, etc. Also, get a lighted switch from Checker/AutoZone that you like for your dashboard.

Drop me a PM, too, if you get this stuff, so I'll know when you're ready.

Ok, this weekend was when I was gonna do this, but im way to busy so I might have to wait a while. I will look into the stuff you guys mentioned and get back to yall when I can! Thanks alot for the help guys!!!!!!
