I am very interested in switching to an electric fuel pump, but I would like some advice and tips first if any of you could pass some info on to me. Thanks.

8) install it close to the tank, in it if possible. for an external pump i like the carter electric pump. it is very reliable, and you dont need a pressure regulator with it. upgrade your soft fuel lines to a high quality fuel line, and use good worm drive clamps but do not overtighten them.

8) not with the carter pump, but with any electric pump it wouldnt be a bod idead if you wanted to install one. never had a problem without a return line on my old grand marquis.

Not to disagree with rbohm, but I bought a $20 ebay pump (marine use), installed it on the frame rail near the steering box with no return line. It has been working perfect for three years now. I used a Chevy fuel plate to block the old fuel pump hole in teh block.

8) all i said was that a return line would not be a bad idea, but as i also said i did not have one on my grand marquis.

How much flow is needed for these pumps??
dare I say "very little"? I can't say for sure, but any pump made for a car engine should suffice. I think it would only matter when running a really big hp engine.

i understand some pumps recommend a mount close to the tank but why would anybody except an engineer with more brains than sense, mount a pump in a tank?

there is a cheap pump for like $30 that most places like Jegs and Summit sell, that will feed a stock engine without a regulator. for F/P block off plate, I used a Ford motorsport plate that fits every SBF except Clevelands and Modefied motors, just have to use a washer cause the holes are 3/8". cost $6 I think and it's chrome

yeah about any SBF or BBC? plate will work. some of the EFI 2.3L motors had them from teh factory (no chrome though)

if you run a regulator I would go with one that can be setup for EFI or carb just in case (is just a spring swap)

a tank mounted pump also stays cooler.

i do not recomment summit brand if you go electric. i had one and it pooped out on me after a couple months. granted, i had it mounted midway between the tank and the motor (no space on the framerail without it being dangerously close to the ground or the rear suspension) but the carter i have in now has held up fine for longer.

8) eletric pumps push fuel far more efficiently than they pull fuel. mechanical pumps are efficient at pulling fuel.
