Engine skipping

It seems when my engine is running, it runs fine and then it sound like it is skipping. I checked the spark plugs and they are new and clean as can be. What could it be?

:) How old are the plug wires?Have you checked the inside and outside of the cap for tracking? Is the outside of the cap clean? If not, wipe it down with alcohol and let it dry.
You can clean the interior of the cap the same way.Make sure that the rotor and contacts inside the cap are clean with no corosion. That should do for a start.

If you post some information on your motor it will be helpful. Size year ect..
Couple more checks:
Confirm your block grounding strap is secure to the firewall. It should be at the rear of engine.
You can start your motor at night, raise the hood and see if there are any sparks jumping from plug wires… This should eliminate leaking plug wires..

have a 65 200ci. I checked the plug wires and they are brand new within 2 weeks old. same with the spark plugs. Checked all of the connections and none of what was suggested was happening.

OK.. you have eliminated the easy..
Now check the points. The gap should be .024 to .026. if they are burnt or pitted replace.

your motor wouldn’t run fine if 2 wires were crossed but
it wouldn’t do harm to check your plug wires and confirm they are in the correct firing order.
Should be 1-5-3-6-2-4

If it works ok when cold, then starts to crap out when it gets hot I often suspect a failing coil.
On the other hand a vacuum leak may account for it.
We need more details about the sound I think.

You may not need this but just in case, this is how you set the points:
Photo Guide

1: Crank the motor until the Point Arm is on high point of cam lobe A
2: Loosen screw B and C just enough so a screwdriver in D can adjust without a lot of force.
3: Using screwdriver at D adjust point gap at E to .024 to .026. (.025)
4: Tighten B
5: Tighten C
6: Recheck gap at E.

Tightening B and C will have a tendency to change your point setting.
Keep the screwdriver in place as you tighten them..

Note: in the picture I didn’t quite make it on the high point.
The point arm MUST be on the tip or high point of lobe.

I don’t know how to eliminate the coil as a cause. But JackFish is right.
The coil remains a suspect until eliminated.

:) Simplest way to eliminate a coil as a suspect,is to use a known good coil, and drive like you always do.If the skip and miss disappears, you done found the culprit.
R&R the coil and celebrate.  .
