It looks like I will be swaping out my 170ci for a '72 200ci. I'm wondering what i will need to make the swap work. I want to figure out everything I need to drop the new engine in.
Will I be able to use the stock pushrod or will i have to go to a cable throttle? what motor mounts should I use? And any other changes you can think of.

Thanks
Eddie.

All the parts are interchangable for the most part..
Look at how the carb is set up on the 72 that would tell ya if you are going to need a cable set up... Or if you use the carb off the 170 with all of its adapters you may be able to use the push rod thats on the car... but the 170 carb is probubly small for the 200.. the 72 may have the bigger hole for the carb anyway I'm not sure.. Theres the 1 1/2" hole which your 170 most likely has and the 1 3/4" hole for the carb the 200 may have..
If the 200 is steal i a car or has the tranny or bell check and see where the starter is some are high mount above the oil pan line and the other is below the oil pan line. I'm not sure if you can change one to the other.

I'll ask the guy i'm getting the engine from about the throttle setup, I don't want to use the carb of the 170 beacuse it is not in great shape and needs reubild in a bad way.
How about motor mounts, can i use the stock 170 mounts or do i need different mounts for the 200?

Thx

The motor mounts should be fine there interchangable.. the only other thing I can thank of that may be a prob is the tranny. Click on the FordSix.com Icon at the top of the page, then click on tech. go to the bottom of the page and click on Hacksaw inline pages to trannymission, scroll to the bottom and click on Manual tranny swaps there is alot of info on bell housing and tranny swaps there.

i have an automatic not a manual not sure if that maked a difference, and i thought that later model engines were drilled for both small and large bellhousings, not untill '80 that the bellhousing bolt pattern switced completley.

I'll keep everyone posted. I hope to make the swap in the next few weeks. hopefully it won't involve much more than pulling the old engine and dropping the new one in it's place.

What is the best and easyest way to pull the engine with an engine hoist? basically how should I attatch the engine to the hoist? anything else i should be aware of when removing the engine or putting the new one in? Tips & Tricks? Tools I will need? I have never done this before, any help is appreciated

Thanks
Eddie.

If your going to pull it tranny and all you well need one of those balance attachments so you can tilt the motor as you pull it out..
stuff a rag in the tail shaft of the tranny or use the driveline yoke to seal it off cause when you tipp it the fluid WELL run out the end..
remove : hood, rad, fan, generator and all attaching wires, cables and linkages.
You well want to attach the hoist at the front and the back of the motor so you can tipp it..
Most people well think I was nutzz  but I used my rocker arm shaft bolts... Not at each end but only as far a part at the balance attachment was long.. so it would pull more streight up and I used different bolts (grade 8's from Ace hardware) so as not to bend the actual bolts if that was the case..I used spacer to fill in the gaps so it was a solid fit with almost no chance to bend..

so you just took off the valve cover and didn't pull the head.
