Exhaust Gasket question

Is the only thing for the stock manifold to pipe connection the donut or is there something else that goes there?

flared exhaust downpipe and a donut is all you should have. (well a couple studs with nuts to bolt it together)

i cant get mine to seal up and boy have i tried everything

i know that feeling, i went through about 15 donuts it feels like and i finally found one that sealed up, i think it's cuz my exhaust manifold is from 77 and my downpipe from 65, probably restrictive, but at least it has no cat
