I'm doing the head swap to a big log head. Using the stock exhaust manifold. It is a little pitted where the old gasket came off. Should I bring it to the machine shop to get the surface milled down so it is smooth? Do I need to use high temp silicone with the new gasket? Do I need to replace the bolts and posts etc?

8) unless the pitting is real deep or the gasket surface is warped you dont need to do anything with it. if the bolts seem to be suspect then replace them. you dont really need gasket sealer for exhaust gaskets, just soak the fiber ones in water for about an hour before you install it. the engine heat will dry it out and seal it up. it really works well with headers.
