Exhausting Thaughts

OK... I'm getting ready to stab my new motor in my 60... I been Bidding on headers on ebay...looking for used here or there,,,,I'm not a real header fan on my daily driver.

the port divider seems to have me baffled a bit....why would you not just bolt on in? This is my thought....

in the old 351 and some 390's the after market trick was to raise the exhaust ports this was done with a part that looked like the exhaust gasket with meatle bent to form the exhaust ports and dirrect the gasses upward to the speacal headers... why cant you do this with a port divider?making it a bolt on ordeal...milde steal exhaust flang and weld a mild steal divider to it...Complete and simple.

you could do that, but that would cost more than the port divider in the end, as well as possibly giving more sealing problems
and apparently some heads differ in how deep the port divider goes

cost more to cut and weild but you wouldnt have the weilding or glueing to deal with... no death rattle... sealing shouldnt be a issue.

I was thinking on making a Tri Y header and this popped into mind.

you can make it big enough to grand to fit like the port divider?

This is a actually a re-post of the old port divider thread:

The factory info that came with my Hooker Super-Comps installation kit included header bolts, gaskets and the port divider. Hooker had a detailed installation guide and explained the best way to install it was to grind it carefully to match your engine and be sure to leave a few thousandths projecting past the block for the headers to lock it in with an interference fit.

is there any spot that u could drill through the divider and into the block, then tap the hole and bolt it on...seems like it would need a fairly small bolt.

I just ground mine to fit, then used high-temp JBweld to help secure it. So far no problems or rattle and it's been a couple thousand miles.
