external dimensions?

Can somebody tell me what the external dimensions are of the small six motors? Overall length, height? I have an '86 t'bird with a 3.8 in it, and would love to put an inline in it this summer. I'd just like to have an idea as to what I'd be up against as far as space.

An S shell Tbird is a Fox LTDII in side the front engine bay , and just needs two flitched plates to bolt the V-six crossmember horns, and the six cylinder engine bolts right in with a Fox body Fairmont sump, no modifications required. The 78 to 83 Fairmont fan shroud fits the V8 radiator, but you have to use the 1978 to 1983 Fox ancillary air pump, A.C, Alt , PS drive and water pump. Best block and head to get is the grey low mount blocks made from 1980 to 1983, but they vary in the three years from grey to blue, depending on transmission type. All C3 and SROD and Borg Warner T4 equiped are high mount blue engines with twin bolt blocks, all C5's and lock-up clutch C4's have low mount blocks, but non lock-up clutch C4's can be low or twin pattern high mount. The Essex 90 3.8 trans you have will bolt right up to the low mount grey block if you redrill the up two bolt holes, which is why you should get one. You need the specific AOD 164 teeth flexplate with the 50 Ounce unbalance removed, and the holes elongated to mate the 7/16th bolts on a 2.75" bolt center. Or track down a grey engines 164 teeth flexplate.

The fan clutch makes the engine a bit longer than the early non Fox 200's, with 31.5 inches from the bellhousing. The engine is about 19.5 inches tall, and the front block is 9.125" wide at the block bolts.

Thank you for such a detailed reply. I really wasn't expecting that much information all at once, but I truly do appreciate it. So basically I need a 1980-'83 fairmont with a grey motor than right?

Not so fast...
None round here in at least a decade or 2 (that'd
B rare, 3 in most cases).
All to the crusher...

That's what I was gonna say as well. Inline sixes are nowhere near as plentiful in salvage yards as they once were. My exploits trying to find a running 250 left me w/ one so badly worn it has to be sleeved. What most seem to overlook is that (in most cases, I'd be willing to bet) the life of the average I6 was one of neglect bordering on punishment,...w/ the previous owners neglecting proper oil change intervals or simply just running the things w/o oil. That said,...even upon finding a 200-250 in a yard will almost assuredly get you a heavy chunk of cast iron in need of rebuilding before it could be called an engine again. Forget being able to find a specific bellhousing mount pattern,...consider yourself fortunate if you find one at all.

Try car-part.com
Or check the forum at classicbroncos.com those guys remove 200 motors periodically.
