here's my question i have a 79 fairmont with a 200 wondering what i would need to do to swap in a 300 that i have seems lika a great swap if it's not too complicated so any help anyone could offer would b great hate to put a 302 in it!

The 200 to 300 swap has been discussed quite a few times. Poke around through the forums and you’ll find plenty of info on it in relation to motor mounts, firewall mods, drivetrain issues, etc..

The Fairmont is a Fox body like the '79-current Mustangs. It uses the same engine K-member as the Mustangs. There have been a few people here trying that same swap, and the problem is that the steering rack interferes with the oil pan in a bad spot. As Al said, look around the forums, but you would be better off building the 200.

I believe the Fairmont's (First Fox!) problem will be having to make a dual sump oil pan since none are available stock or aftermarket. I'm not sure but you may have hood clearance issues too along with the block being a bit long.

The 250 will also have problems with oil pan clearances - in case you were wondering.

Glad to see another FZ enthusiast. I currently have two but both are factory V8s.

The oil pump is the technical foul in your game plan. The sump mods won't allow for the bump where the pump is, apparently, form what I've read.

i appreciate the help! any suggestions on what to do with the 200?
i want enough power to smoke all the hondas that are running around but it's gotta stay drivable enough for my mom to drive though she has experience with big lumpy cams!

Here’s a suggestion, if your goal is to beat Hondas, get a V8. The Hondas and such are running 130 – 170 HP, average. You have under 100 at your disposal at the moment, plus you have a heavier car. You can spend $1000, $2000, $3000 and more on your 200 and get yourself to the 160-170 Hp range and you still won’t be beating any Hondas. If you drop in a 302, you’ll be starting off at 200 Hp and can easily exceed 300 or more with bolt-on performance parts.

i have no problem swapping in a 302 or 351 just looking for something different to do! has anyboy tried turbo'ing any of these motors? how about sucsessfully?

what about a 75 shot of nitrous a nice 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 exhaust with a header and a nice cam ?

i've got to say nitrous is one option but two problems. one how do these motors hold up to it they have any unusual problems when it comes to the squeeze? and two nitrous is only there for a second i'm looking for something alittle more fulltime. :D

inportkiller has is and has never had any thing bad to say about it 8)
