Finally engine identification -

I finally had time to work on a little on the engine I asked about oh some time ago. Casting code C_OE, 5 freeze plugs, head says C3xx. It turns out to be a 4 main 200 without casting year digit. It's probably from a 63 fairlane but the number even had David asking wtf? I'll be keeping it because the previous owner swapped a 62 170 into my 65 Futura, along with the Fordomatic.
Ive got a 65 bellhousing and a C4 ready to go through so I can at least hook up the 200 to the C4 and get the older engine out. When I'm done is there anyone in the Portland area interested in a 170 Fordomatic combo? or even the two units separated? Don't know how long before I get things done, but I'll definetly keep folks posted. Engine is strong, new carter fuel pump, 1100 carb from a 65, tuneup etc.

Thanks for the interest.

Howdy Harv:

Very interesting! Did you disassemble to determine that it is a 4 main bearing crank? Does it have solid or hydraulic lifters. Anything you could tell me about the distributor driveshaft, oil pump and the distributor mounting hole (diameter) in the block would be very informative.

You have a very rare piece of the history of the development of the 200 engine. Savor it.

Thanks for sharing.

Adios, David

David - I pulled the pan and counted mains - 4. The side shows 5 plugs which was why iI got the thing. Distributor hole and shaft will fit the DSII (5/16 ?) becuase I did a trial fit of the one I had stockpiled for the build. Haven't progressed to pulling the lifters yet, but it has non-adjustable rockers. I will let you know more as I find out more.

OHHH a thought hit me, The 170 in the 65 has adjustable rockers!!! OK folks - it's official - I'm retracting the offer of the 170, at least so's I can scavange the adjustable rockers. The block is still up for grabs, when I get through the rebuild on the 200.
