flanges for the long tube headers?

The CI long tube headers don't have flanges to bolt up the rest of the exhaust system. If I order the headers with the Jet-Hot coating, can a flange still be welded on without damaging the finish?

It will cause localised damage, and probably void any warranty claims that relate to the welded area. Is there a reason you don't want to run with a slip-over pipe?

Ok, I didn't know. I was just comparing the long tube to the short tube headers that do have the flanges. So, is a slip-over better than a flange?

Collector flanges need attention. Engine torque movement has to be addressed.

My favorite tube - slip/butt seal ('') are the stainless truck type with two large bolts and hi-temp sealant goo included. These make fine pressure side ( engine pipe side ) exhaust seals. The Aussie type headers with the straight tubes can be slip or butted to the silencer input.

A preferred setup is to clamp the header collectors tight to the engine / tranny , and provide stainless flex joints for engine torque movement.

I like Butt Joint clamps (also called Band clamps), which can be purchased from Summit Racing for about $9 bucks each. They don't wear out (or leak) like flange gaskets or donuts.
