anyone running flowmasters? If so what series are they, im thinking about the standard 40 series. Thanks for the help.

Chris

Chris,

general consensus is 40s are a little loud and raspy sounding for the 200/250s. Currently, I'm having dual 50s installed, so I'll let you (and everyone else) know via a sound clip how they sound.

Im currently runnin flowmaster 50's. I love them, they are loud windows down, and quiet windows up. You wont be dissapointed!!!
Matt

Yea i would probably go with 50's b/c i got 40's no my 200 and at about 60 or 70mph you can't even here the radio even if it is all the way up unless you roll up the windows then you burn up with no air. 40's are way to loud, I didn't know this until i got them installed. So i recommed you go with the 50's.

I'll sell you my 40 series flowmaster if you want loud -It has a very nice low idle rumble but other than that it is tooooo loud.

I am going to go with something else and switch to dual out, looks much nicer in my opinion.

ruckus68- how much would you be wanting for that 40? i have two vehicles that need something for a muffler, or i even a friend that needs one for his charger( )

I'd take 50 for it. it is about a 10 weeks old and gets used about once a week. it is a 40 series with delta flow tech.

I can take paypal and i don't have the foggiest idea what it would cost to ship it.

Let me know

John

It's official...even 50 series are loud. Not bad in the interior...but I haven't gotten on the highway yet. They aren't really loud until you hit 3000+RPM, though idle right behind the car is pretty loud. There is a slight tin sound to it, but it has a fairly nice tone.

When I roll my windows up, I cant hear them at all, and on the interstate they arent loud at all windows up, now windows down is different, lol. I bet its a bit different with a soft top tho. I love the tin sound of Flows, thats why I got them!
Matt

I got it on the highway today...right, can't even hear them.

At idle...they sound awesome...

On the throttle...Awesome

Cruising around 1800-2400 RPM...damn annoying IMHO.

I'm trying to figure out if that's what I want or not.

Slade

Slade, just a suggestion - resonators. I think the original Shelbys had resonators along the tailpipe. This may help at crusing speed (1800-2200 rpms).

I'm going to try putting some dynomat behind the rear seat and in the trunk. My floorpans already have it, so the sound is pretty much from the rear of the car.

Slade

What, you mean you wouldn't want a couple of these sticking out your rear end?

Ive got 3" side exit pipes and I love em. I like when I run thru buildings and stuff I can hear the sound resonate off them. I even catch the exhaust resonate off of curbs sometimes, but I have a bit of a clicking sound to it. Thats the only thing I dont like. The sound on the highway isnt so bad to me, but then again Im 20, lol. Sounds like a harley to me. My favorite is the sound right around 2500 rpms before I shift it, love that sound.
Matt

That's been my experience with the Flowmaster as well. Nice idle, good sound when you rev it, sounds like crap at part throttle cruise from 1500-2500 rpm. I have tried a resonator and it does not help. The sound level is lower but the resonant drone is still there.

I have a set of 2" duals with turbos that I am going to install when I get the Locost finished.

Hey thanks for all the help, I think I'll give the 50 series a try, now are you guys running dual outlet headers or is this off the stock maifold?

Chris

Dual out...I'm having my 50s removed on Friday for Turbos...

DOn't get me wrong, they had a pretty good sound...just not what I'm looking for.

Slade

Hey guys, I'm running 40's on mine. They were very razzy on the interstate; but sounding smooth at idle. My muffler man and I got together and decided to run an H-pipe in the middle of the set-up..BIG DIFFERENCE!! Now, I still have the V-8 sound at idle and low RPM and sound smooth on the higway. No more RAZZ!! :) ...LATER!! 8)
