Flywheel & Pressure Plate Question

I would like to know if new holes could be drilled and tapped in a flywheel (for a 200cid engine) in order to replace the "older" 3-finger pressure plate with a "new" diaphragm p.p.??? If so, has anyone had this done??? Thanks, Jim

Dan, Thanks, I have read those posts; a couple of them are mine. The question I throw out on this forum (since more people read this section) is whether or not DRILLING HOLES (AND TAPPING) INTO THE FLYWHEEL for a diaphragm p.p. has been done, and whether it is advisable to do so or not??? I don't know if the diaphrapm p.p. (8.5"), that I was able to get a hold of on the "cheap", will have the same bolt-hole pattern as the stock 3-finger p.p. that is on there now???? Evidently the 8.5" Alfa-Romeo, the Volvo, and the Mercedes-Benz, pressure plates that Rickwrench talks about on his "STICKY" all have the same bolt pattern as the stock p.p.! I am asking this question in advance of getting my 8.5" p.p., which by the way is for various makes & models of Isuzu Amigo's & Troopers from 81' to 95'. Appreciate any input! Thanks again, Jim

8) the flywheel has been drilled and tapped for different pressure plates in the past on a variety of engines. however it most be done perfectly as any offset in the bolt pattern will cause an out of balance condition that cannot be cured. is the job worth the effort? i dont think so.

Rbohm, Thanks for your comments! I hope the bolt pattern on the new p.p. is the same as the stock, and therefore my question will be mute! I assume that if someone were to "drill & tap" the flywheel, it would best be done by a machine shop; minimizing any errors by a novice. Thanks, Jim

8) jim, having the flywheel drilled and tapped by a machine shop is an excellent idea. one thing you might do is put the pressure plate up against the loose flywheel and see if any hole that are drilled in the flywheel match up. there are holes that are drilled, but not tapped. sometimes they work, sometimes they dont.
