For the 1969 Ford Mustang 250 carb linkage

Someone recently was wanting to know how the 1969 250 mustang linkage was set up.

It bolts on the rear passenger side exhaust boss bolts that all C8 (1968) onwards castings seamed to have.

I used this C3 1963 era head to bolt on the later kickdown linkage

Is that the same bent plate (not as rusty looking as seen in last 4 pic) to the left of the 1st pic, touching the rear lift pint, has 2 lower bolts into the log & a longer round rod threaded thru as in the last 4 pic? I understood frm a post last wk here that the C4 kick down goes in there too. That this is only on the rigs w/a C4?
:?:
Thnx !
Got a name &/or part number for it?
Love 2 C the kick dwn & throttle cable/linkage on'em.

This shows (if it is a '63) a way longer run for this part than I was aware. Boy, alot more folks than I realized musta trashed them. I can't find one. That'n the 2 lift plates R on my search list...

It was on the manuals to, they just didn't use the kickdown hole. There was one on the 70 250 I bought and it was a manual.

"...on the manuals too..."
The 4 sm 6s I've owned - no.
How do ppl refer to them? (name?).
Any prt numbers?
What yrs?
All sm6s?
( Lemmie know if this is a thread jack )

Mine doesn't appear to have a # stamped on it. I think they are available. I seem to remember seeing them on one of the mustang parts sites.

I wonder how complete.
What R they named? I'll search...

Have a 66 mustang, 200, c4, installing a Weber 38 from VintageInlines and converting to a cable throttle using a 69 mustang pedal. A universal throttle linkage came with the purchase. Just not quite sure how it installs. Currently looking for pics of the linkage that others have used. thanks

Okay, this is actually quite simple.

The cable pendant throttle for 1969 is really the same as the Fox 1978 onwards system.

Varilux used a Lokar short cable conversion kit to mate a 69 Mustang pedal one to sort out all his Power Steering verses Tri power issues.

Being an ophthalmix product techncian sure helps train your eye for some simply perfect parts, but he'd read through a lot of basic literature, and came to his own conclusions.

I finally decided to bite the bullet and convert to a cable throttle. I purchased a '69 gas pedal, drilled a few holes to relocate the pedal mount, and yes- this was definitely a better solution. Additionally, the mount for the rear carb's pivot (the U piece I had fabbed earlier) provided the PERFECT mount for the end of the cable. For the first time, I was really really glad I had installed the 3x1. If I could go back and change any part of the process, I would have converted to the cable throttle as I was swapping the head. It would have probably cut at least 75% of the time from this project.

Here is how the big old 68 onwards bolted on kickdown bracket in the original post works in.

First years, about the advent of the 250 option in the Mustang (actually 1968 in some Falcon/Ranchero utilities, but released officially in 1969 in the Mustang) the Carter YF and then RBS carb was operated from the uphand passenger side position, but it was primarily run by a cable from the drivers pendant gas peddle.

The issue is that on 69's, the cable stopped short at the passenger side, where the Kickdown bracket became the mount point for the rod operated whatever 1-bbl they ran. 250's with 1-bbl Autolite 1101 or Carter YF carb.

Then it got changed to a full cable about the Maverick era from 1969 to the end of the run in 78. The carb had a fully cable operated system by then.

Now, the Weber 38 is just a rehashed 32/36 Weber or 5200 seriesHolley Weber, so what works for those earlier AUtolite 1100/1101/Carter YF/Carter RBS, works for a Weber 38 too.

Soo, simply, the 69 cable operates the old Autolite 1101/Carter YF/RBS from a cable and then to that big old kickdown bracket.

Its not well understood, and its even harder to find when all the posts in the forum at around Apr 09, 2017 are sequenced out of order...right back to 2003. But hey, that's why I do pictures. So you can see how simple it all is.

The throttle linkage and kickdown rod on early 69-70 Ford small sixes with the 250 carb before the RBS had the 9728 bracket as a throttle bracket.

When EGR was introduced, the whole actuation changed, but the part continuted to be mounted to the same two bolts at the rear exhaust manifold plane of the head.

Note the following

I'm certain there are high resolution pictures of bracket BPN 9728.

Just can't find em.

1969-1983 200/3.3 or 1969-1980 250/4.1 is whacha whacha whachawant...

Every C9 onwards head till E0 had the two bolt hole boss cast into the back part of the head, some early ones weren't drilled.

BPN
9500-9599 is the Carburetor
9700-9999 = Accelerator and choke control rods

As of the advent of the C5 and AOD, it went to a cable linkage on the YFA Big Sixes, but the er 1969-1970-1/2 Falcon, 69-73 250 Mustang, 69-77 Comete/Maverick/1975-1983 Granada/1975-1980 Monarch/1979-1982 Mustang/Capri/ 1978-1983 Fairmont/Zephyr all used a rod oprated version.

The internal BPN number will most likely be #9728

the 6 cylinder 240/300 F-Truck and E-Van system.

It should be under the Ford Six Performace old Classic in lines tech articles

Its not under 1bad6t.coms 170/200/250 69-77 Maverick rod operated kickdown linkages.

They were under this link

Both the Big Six and Small six rod operated kickdown bracket were similar, but not 100% the same.

The #9728 C4 and C5 kickdown rod bracket on the 1978 to 1985 non feedback carb F100/150'S has a similar musroom on the rod as the stock Small Six 1969-1983 rod operated kickdown.

post #7 pic 4'n 5 are different than these pic in #8 (they have a plate but it's only similar, a lill different too)

I C the RBS carb (I have here). The 'bolted to the log plate' has a rod linage that (might) go up'n over the back of the valve cover to connect to the gas peddle rod. I don't think the 2 pieces are used at the same time, no? Pined Hinged throttle link & 'bolted to log plate w/rod-threaded thru'. I need to havea pic on my desk top as I post abt this for clarity in viewing'n writing. Too late at nite 4 me to follow all this right now.
Back later, thnxs for posts. I just luv pic! Gotta stay w/it but laters...

In the US, ‘69 was unique because the throttle from the pedal had been converted to “pull” cable, but the carburetor still used “push upward” actuation. It was all accomplished with the complex linkage bracket above. That’s why the ‘69 Autolite 1101 swaps so easily onto earlier rod linkage setups, the throttle at the carb works the same way as the early ones. In ‘70 they changed the carb itself to a “pull over the top” action, greatly simplifying the cable throttle linkage with a bracket that pulled over the valve cover. I have good examples of both, I’ll take some pictures and add to this post.

I imagine the 69 Autolite 1101 would be hard to find. But a good upgrade on a 200. Nice to show some pics.

Here's four of them without the SCV on eBay, various conditions and prices. I'm not sure if no SCV always means it's a '69. The SCV ones are from further back in the 60s, and after '69 I think they dropped the 1101. There are often a couple mis-labeled ones to find among the 1100s on eBay too.

You found several right away. So you need to know which one would work with your existing rod linkage setup. Is a diagram available of the correct 1101 configuration for id? For those 200 owners wanting to upgrade their carb the 1101 is ideal it seems.

I put one on the 200 in my '66 Mustang to test it a couple years ago. I had to make an adaptor out of an old carb spacer to fit the bigger bore (yea, you can buy 'em) but other than that it hooked right up. I didn't even need to tweak the adjustable link, but I did put on a new choke tube. I probably could have re-bent the old one the little bit it needed to fit. But I knew I was going to put the old carb back on and didn't want to kink it or something. It ran okay with the standard 70 jet in it, but smelled rich. I think I'll go down a size ot two when I put it on the car for good. Anyway, the 1101 got used for the 250 in not only '69 Mustangs, but Falcons, Montegos, Fairlanes, and the Meteor too. The manual only shows one carb, and a lot of weird linkages, probably so the same carb will work in the different cars. I didn't study the linkage attachment points on the carbs I listed, just posted the results of a quick search for 1101s and weeded out the SCVs.

The RBS for a 69 Mustang 250 works really well with the stock 66 Mustang-style hard linkage (non-cable) and remanufactured units are available through Rock Auto. The factory 69 Mustang linkage used plates, bell cranks, cables (as stated above) and various other pieces to actuate the carb. Attaching some MPC screen grabs for illustrative purposes.

"dem dar is rare’n fine pahts" (as they say round here). I live in the NE (nor’east, new England) & found
mine in Manatoba. Or wuz is Scatoooon? How? I’ll never remember.
Thank you John, I now see I still need some of the kick down/tv ‘down low’ and a spring or 2 ‘up hi’. BUT...
the RBS is on~

Thnx 4 posting the 2 above. I see a “U” for bronks. I guess mayB the 3.3 (just during ’73/4) hada auto in them? (The
bent8 had em - a pan fill C4 w/V8). Am checkin it out on the 'classic bronco’ channel. (site made by jeff’s bronco ie
“Bronco Graveyard” started 20, 30 yrs ago?). Referred a doz i6 owners from there overto here. i6 is not what most
use tho. Number is growing is seems. Or may B the venomous comments abt mine have just died dwn.

There are no "U" listings for that particular bracket at all in the MPC - not for the V8 or the I6. I found a pictorial of the OE arrangement. I have no idea if it will help you.

I have one of the 9728 brackets with the 9772 linkage attached, if you are still looking. Still has the spring & ball clips attached also. I would sell it for $50 plus cost of shipping.
