Forged pistions nessary in a Turbo 200 running 6-10 PSI? I'm rebuilding my 200 for the Turbo and debating the cost of forged, if it's worth it. it's ither forged or I'm going to get some KB silvolites.

for 6-10 psi I would say not worth it, I am running 10, and have had many leaning out issues, that are all sorted out now, but this thing keeps on kicking... does10s ran an 11.85 off cast pistons, few turbo motored cars are actually running forged pistons, linc200 isnt on 18 ppsi or something crazy with race gas, does10's just switched over but was running 11's w/o them, 66sprint6 has them just so he could outdue me  , ummm I believe import killer was running cast until the happy juice took his motor, mustangaroo is cast, Im not sure about drag200 stang, and if I was wrong on anyones setup let me know, this was only off the top of my head so I may have confused someone with someone else

Hypers should be fine up to a true eight or ten PSI.
are KB silvolites hyper's? what actully is hyperuratic pistions? a cast pistion with a high silicone content?

Yes, hypereutectic pistons are a high silicon alloy casting. Ford use ACL brand hypers in the current model factory built turbo Falcon. It produces over 320HP out of 240 cubes.

The Silvolites may be such; I haven't even checked them out.

I checked them out, they are Hyper's. I can probably order them thru Summit racing, they sell them for all the common engines and say if you do not see your application, to call and that they can probably get it.

A lot of stuff is actually hidden on the Summit website. It doesn't come up when you surf, but if you punch the Summit code into it (usually a three letter prefix like KBP, then a hyphen, then the maker's part number), the part shows, along with likely shipping date.

No Sir.

I would toss them in if you are already rebuilding. even if you only plan on 6-10 psi it would be nice to be able to step it up a notch without a full rebuild again.

I found that Ross Racing Pistions will sell a set of 6 Forged custom to customer specs pistions for $589 per set. if KB silvolites are not much cheaper than this, I'll have a set of Custom Ross Racing Forged pistions made. gonna check Summit now.

Yeah its all fancy and stuff just to say that you have them, but believe me it is over-kill. Just think what you could do with that extra $589.00? Unless you are thinking this motor will be drag race only, then go for it. Yet, these motors are hard to stop, even in stock form. Good luck

I'm only going to buy them if KB silvolites are not much cheaper, like $50-$100 cheaper. the ross racing pistions come with rings and pins for the $589 so I have to figure in that cost to the Silvolite Hyper's. I know Silvolite makes them part # 1120

I also found that EGGE Speed shop makes pistons for us 144/170 guys for about 150.00 a set plus rings. I have used their products in the past and they have a GREAT product. Look them up at egge.com

yup. Egge will even do custom to spec pistions, only problem is they only do cast pistions, can't do forged. I Emailed them with that question

Is it still possible to purchase off the shelf TRW forged pistons for the 200/250?

Some say its overkill...but I say overkill the mother!!! If your not plannin on tearin it down, dont worry bout it, but if you tear into it and find two pistons that look like they ate a couple handfulls of nuts and bolts, go for it! Good insurance for that day you go boost happy and cant provide enough fuel.

Oh, so true!

New? I highly doubt it. Lots of "New - old stock" sets still floating around. I have two sets.

Why? The money is much better spent elsewhere.

Well, forged pistons might add a few more seconds of life to the engine, but if the heat and pressure are enough even they won't survive.

KB silvolites a good option? guy from there tech dept told me not to run them turbocharged as there a " stock replacement " pistion, but that it was the only pistion they made for the engine.

My reading of the website implied that the Silvolites were not hypereutectic. That, in fact, was the province of Keith Black pistons.
