fuel tank leak Help

What can I use to seal up the sending unit at the back of the tank on the comet.. I cant get it to seal up... could I be trying to get it to tight. or can I use some RTV around it?? The gasket I'm using I think is a little thick so I may be betting the ring to tight?? is that a posibility??

Tim, so many hassles here I removed the tank to install mine! Also I smeared both sides of the rubber ring with Blue Hylomar, which doesn't wash away in fuel.

Is the Blue Hylomar like the Blue RTV??

I don't think so. Isn't the RTV like a thick paste? The Hylomar is transparent and quite thin (but extremely sticky).

RTV would probably work if it was spread thin, but my biggest hassle was the rubber ring kept slipping out of its indented groove in the tank when I was working under the car.
