Well it depends on the gasket, as far as like valve covers, oil pan, etc, etc, just use gorrila snot (gasket adhesive) to hold it in place, unless you think the VC is warped then use silicon. What kind of rear main is it? I know of the 302's I am used to the rope seals you must lube a little with oil. EGR (if you have it) hi temp silicon......... anything else just use common sense.
EDIT NOTHING ON THE HEAD GASKET IF YOU DIDN"T ALREADY KNOW. If you do anything to it spray it with copper paint (I think permatex seals some as head gasket seal) it simply helps it seal a little suposadly but i have never used it.
