hey ya'll.... got my motor runnin in my hot rod, now just have to put my generator on...
ive been told that I would have to polarize my generator to make sure its making juice. How would i do this? I know its something about jumping some wires on my solonoid or regulator, but im not sure which..
Can anyone let me know how to do this?
Thanks!!

Basically, you need to use the battery to run it in the direction of rotation, like an electric motor. My understanding is that if you achieve this, it doesn't really matter how you wire it (for this activity). Others may have more detailed or accurate suggestions!

Here's a quick link.

I don't have my shop manual on me right now, but I've to polarize my generator before (well, not since I switched to an alternator) and this write up sounds just like the manual.

THANKS!!! great info there! Im gonna give it a shot when the gen is wired up.

the procedure for polarizing your generator is this:
1. mount your regurlator & generator
2. connect all the wires except the field wire at the regulator
3. with the battery connected touch the field wire to the bat post on the
regulator. there should be a spark.
4. connect the field wire, start the motor, and see if the generator charges.

remember that if you are using original ford parts, if it is six volt it is positive ground and if it is twelve volt it is negative ground.
