Guy with 250 2V dynoed his engine?

Guy at Hume Performance I spoke with recently had a Falcon with a 250 2V he had dynoed at his place of work.
It made 124hp (95kw) to rear wheels. And that was with a 500 holley. He thinks it had a bit of a cam. No lope at idle so I ussume if it was it was pretty mild.
Doesnt sound like much?
Compare this with a 1995 fuel injected overhead cam EL Falcon. Crow Cams dynoed this model at between 95 and 98 kw to rear wheels.
I am almost certain the valve lift on an EL is much higher (.490 with mild cam) than on a 250 2V (.417 mild) sorry I cant be more precise with the standard lifts.
Not bad for about twenty years difference.
 
Those old 2V's were not restricted in the intake like the cross-flows. Just compare the cross-sectional area of theBendix Stromberg WW carb and the Weber ADM. The 2V wins. The cross flow head flows better, but the intake manifold is not as good.

As for an EL, if it has the BTR LE 85 automatic, the unlocked convertor or any issues with the soft shifts they are renown for will mean a loss of power. And Fords are often driven out of the factory with well below the advertised 148, 157 OR 162 kW they were supposed to have. If a 1527 kg manual XR6 EB did 15.3 second quarters, why did the 1560 kg EL XR6 only do an awfull 16.6 seconds. Even an EAII (at about 1480 kgs) did that with a stupid old 139 kw 3.9 4-spd Mutipoint. Some one telling fibs again!

The temperature and air pressure correction to 20 degrees c and 760 mm of mercury must be applied. And the dyno must have a current calibration, and must hold the power reading for five consecutive runs at a specified rev rate. And the tyres may affect the readings a little.

And the power loss is often quoted at all sorts of levels through the axle and drive train. Some say good transmission/axle combos loose less than 20%. XR8 T5 Falcons loose about 26 %, autos loose around 33%, depending on the warmth of the torque convertor. And now there are lots of issues regarding flash readings for various turbo vehicles.

(Imagine how much heat is lost if a 1350 rear wheel hp engine looses 26% through its axle and gearbox box....350 horses lost. That's 260 1 kilowatt heaters worth of energy gone to heating the air!)
