H-pipe or no H-pipe

Going to get my dual out header installed soon, just wondering about ya'lls opinion is on whether or not to use an h-pipe? I'm running dual out to two flowmasters.

H-pipes and x-pipes are used in V8 applications to equalize the flow between the two banks. That would'nt be necessary on an inline six. IIRC someone tried it on a six and said it sounded awful. :?

No H-Pipe. I have a dual out header with two flowmasters and it sounds great. You can hear the burbling seperatly. Like Alex said, I am guessing it would sound bad with one.

I had an H on a very built 6 a bunch of years ago flowing through glass packs and it made the exhaust sound like an old Jaguar. Mellow and smooth, but wide open it was great!

I was also told that on V8's that if you don't put the H in on a street car that you run the risk of valves burning. I don't know why, but that is what I remember.

Unless you have true tuned headers then the scavaging effect without the H may be reduced, hence less power.

What does the header mfg recomend?

An H pipe reduces the scavenging on any I6 by adding extraneous, not in sequence, exhaust pulses from the other tube. I don't have any opinion on or interest in sound but it will probably run worse with an H pipe than without

8) i would say X pipe or no crossover pipe. it is really only needed on engines that need to balance the exhaust pulses like a 90 degree V8.

Shoot. That's almost split. Can we hear from more people who have it than people guessing? I have been told by several mechanics that it will sound better with the H & the guys at the exhaust shop agree. I am about to do this same thing, but want a little more input from those who have tried it. Especially if someone put in a crossover & then had it taken out for some reason.

Thanks,

Nobody chimed back in. Anyone have the crossover on a 6 with dual out header? Should I do it or not? It's at the shop as we speak.
Please post if you have it that way or have had one in the past.

Don't add the H. These Six's already have a full 180 degree fireing order. If you want to it can always be added later.

good luck, Ric.

I installed an "X" pipe on my car but never had anything other setup other than the stock pipe so I cann't comment on power or compare sound. It doesn't sound muddy or tinny. I get a lot of complements on the sound and I my self think it sound much like an 8.
