Harder to start when warm

It seems that when my engine is warm, it "tries" a little harder to start. It always does, but I didn't know if this is something I should look into. It cranks and cranks for a couple seconds, then turns over. Usually, it just cranks right up.
could this be a sign of some failure to come? haha

Could just be that the fuel boils out of the bowl and has to be replinished.

do you mean it cranks slowly when hot? That's somewhat normal, resistance in the starter goes up as temperature increases, and the exhaust is right next to the starter. If it cranks very slowly, or cranks/stops/cranks, then starts, the starter could be getting worn, and may need to be replaced soon.

nope, it is just slower cranking - it hasn't stopped yet. I imagine it will one day though, as this thing is ooold.

The battery could be getting weak too. Heat kills batteries. Try cleaning all of the battery and starter cable connections.

very good point. I keep forgetting not everyone checks their battery first.

heat will also slowly kill the starter as years go by.

Just like an old ignition coil that will work ok when cold, but fails when the engine gets hot enough and allows the windings to ground themselves.
