Head Gasket

I have been trying to fix an overheating problem on my 66 mustang 200 ci. I have made some progress. A few days ago my Dad called to say he thought it may have blown a head gasket as he was loading it on the truck to ship to me. So, since I had other stuff off I thougth I would pull the head. This I did and saw no damage to I slipped it right back on. Is this OK. I have torqued it once, but if this is a no-no, I will get it off again and put on the new gasket.

Thanks. jalberg

It's likely to give you some grief IMO, if you just get in and drive it. But you could try running it up to temp, then letting cool a few (3-4) hours and retorquing - might be OK. Cheaper than a gasket, too.

Regards, Adam.

8) i have never had any luck in reusing used head gaskets. they always seem to leak like a sive. best to get a new gasket and replace it. often times you have to know what to look for when checking a head gasket for leaks as the evidence can be rather subtle.
