Header Gasket Installation

Have previously had leaking problems with my headers. It had been suggested to soak the header gaskets in water for several hours before installing, and someone also suggested some sort of high temp gasket sealer to help eliminate the leaks. Can both be done and what gasket sealer is recommended.

What Gasket are you using?? If its the metal composit one soaking is going to do any good..... I tryed to use one of the stock looking gaskets and there was such a miss-match of the ports between the head the the header that there was only a finger nail thickness of materal sealing over the header. so I went with a Mr. Gasket one and there was more materal to seal. Port #5 I believe...

I'm using one I got from Mike. Metal on one side and a brown looking material on the other side. I did use a carbide burr and stones and did a home version of "porting" or gasket matching. I'd just like to try this time to avoid a leak.

The one I saw in Mikes site is like the stock one's if you can match it up to your header before you install and see if there is enough material to seal the ports. line up the bolt holes and see how much it seals around the header ports..
good luck
