I just put a Clifford Header 53-2600 on my 67 Mustang with a 200. I did not put the original gasket that the header came with. I put on a copper gasket that is much thinner. Now my rear piston is leaking. Should I put the original gasket that the header came with back on my car? Or what other options do I have? I probably sound like an idiot, but how in the world do I get a torgue wrench in to undo the bolts?

Thanks matt

I would personly use a high temp silicone gasket maker like ATV Ultra Copper or similar. I used it by it's self with no gasket on my header. It's been on there for two months and no leaks. I have also had experience using this produdct in much more extreme conditions with no sign of failure.

As for removing the header in the vehicle I had to use a box end wrench, also used it for retorqing. Actually I tightend the bolts as much as I could using the wrench.

Matt,

Get an extension for your sockets. That's how I did mine.

For the gasket, I used normal gaskets, but I caked the crap out of both sides with Ultra Cooper or the like when I installed them. Hasn't leaked in a year.

I used the gasket that came with my Cliffy header. It stayed sealed for 4-5 years. The gasket that went bad was the one for the collector. That failed after 3 years. Personally I would go to the local Speed Shop or Auto-Zoo and buy an aftermarket collector gasket, its was much better than the one that came with the header.

As for the torque wrench, they are used to tighten bolts. To take the bolts out use a six-point box-end wrench, they slip alot less than the 12-pointers. And to tighten, don't worry about torque values, tork 'em down until they don't leak. Nothin' succeeds like success!!! And I would go back after the engine has been warmed up and cooled down about 3-4 times and re-tighten the bolts. You'll be amazed at how they "relax" after a few heat/cool cycles.
