Header will not fit

Ok, I saved money (I thought) when I found a header with light surface rust on a Fairlane at the wrecking yard. I had it bright ceramic coated and now it will not fit my '63 Ranchero. The collector hits the idler arm and if we bend it away from that it will hit the positive lug on the starter.

The muffler shop says that the header warped when it was coated and heated in the oven. Anyone had this problem?

Sounds like a Clifford header Bob. I had the same starter cable lug interference problem with mine straight from Clifford still new in the box. The idler arm issue is probably because the header was not designed for the Falcon, it's a tight fit in round bodies.

I seriously doubt the header warped during the coating process, but that's just my opinion.

I do not know of any early headers that fit properly. There was always some issue with the idler arm, starter bolt clearance, etc. That is why Mike had FSPP headers designed to fit properly.

The Pacemaker and Perry's brand headers do fit and clear. They were both designed to fit between the steering box and starter on RHD roundbody vehicles - even less clearance. The only impediment I can imagine is the large style starter - it will be close no matter what brand headers are chosen.

My understanding of the intention for the FSPP headers was a more universal fit, lower supply cost and streamlined production process.

Pacemakers fit great with lots of clearance around the starter. Best fit of any header available in the USA.

I intended for the FSPP headers to fit, but I made an error in my design. I didn't have a test vehicle, so I had to guess, and missed it. The front collector sticks out to far, but this will be rectified on the next production run.

Correct. Plus no shipping cost as they are produced locally, and speedier restocking. Yet maintained the high quality of the Pacemakers. Best of all worlds. :)

Thanks guys. I thought it was just mine that didn't fit.

Screw E-bay $$ bidding wars........ I'll sell or trade it here for a non coated used header that fits if some one wants to change to a ceramic coated. Caps Bright Coating in Fresno, California did mine. It is brighter then Jet-Hot and is supose to last longer.

I do not know the brand, but as said above, it may be a Cliffy.

I've put the stock manifold on now and a 3 chamber Flow master w/ 2 1/4 pipe. The idle sound so good with a little lope, then blasts your ears with the throttle open. I love setting off the car alarms going up the street.
