Help!! Anybody know what this is?!

I am rebuilding an autolite 2100 and found somthing unfamiliar when I took the accelerator pump diaphragm out. Normally there is a check valve/plunger thing there. Instead, this one has a large metal slug covered in nodules, and that is surrounded by some kind of resin piece. (see url to picture below)

Does anyone know what I am looking at? I am not sure what to do with it?
Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED.

8) it looks like that carb is using a check ball to prevent fuel from being pushed back into the float bowl rather than the rubber umbrella.

It did indeed have a check ball above the assembly you see here. How did you know? I have never seen anything like it.

Should I just clean it up and reassemble it? Will it work as good as the normal setup? Or, should I be looking for a different carb?

8) cuz i are a genus :rolflmao: :rolflmao: i have seen those before in a number of carburetors. just clean it up and use it as it was designed that way.

See...that's the kind of wisdom that comes with over half a century of existence ...plus it's a scientific fact most genus's were born in october...{me 41 as of yesterday}...congrats rbohm!

Yeah, I'm surprised I wasn't...I seem to always be running late everywhere else I've actually got a sister who was born on the 5th and another brother and sister born on the 27th & 28th respectively...(33% of our irish, catholic, family of 12 kids...redundant, redundant)...apparently april was a happy month around our house for our dearly departed folks
