Well the 250 in the Comet has developed a click. Im guessing its coming from the head. Also from the consistency of it im guessin broken valve spring. Also its more noticeable on acceleration so im guessing exhaust valve. All that and i never opened the valve cover. Any suggestions before I do?? There is an occasional miss but i believ ethats coming from fouled plugs from leaking valve seals(which i have new). I do notice a small drop in power. This engine has only 55,000 on it but it spent a lot of time parked before i got it(prolly only 1100 miles a year.) So help me out guys.

8) it sounds like an exhaust leak to me. it has all the characteristics of one.

From whence could this leak be comin? bad valve? exhaust gasket? cracked manifold?

most common leak on the small six
look at where the manifold meets the exhaust pipe

my 250 has a clicking sound too, but i traced it with a stethascope to where the exhaust pipe connects to the manifold.

Definitely sounds like an exhaust leak. It can be deceiving. Mine leaked around the manifold to pipe donut for a while, When I fixed that, it was leaking by the #6 cylinder. Retorque your exhaust manifold bolts, and check the condition of your gasket.

8) the minor exhaust leak on my falcon comes from two large cracks in my exhaust manifold.

If you suspect a leaking valve, first try running a can of BG44 (from NAPA) through the gas for a tank. This will often clean up a dirty, unburnt valve. It works well on my other Fords that sit a lot.
