Help!!! Threads in block are stripped out!

Hi,

I was putting the head on my new block tonight and during the second torque step the threads pulled out of one of the holes in the block. What can I do here? Will a heli-coil insert be able to withstand 75 ft/lbs of torque? Do I drill it out and tap to next size? All advice is appreciated!

Thanks,

Kirk

Kirk,

Dumb question here....

Are the threads pulled completely oput of the block?? I had one like that, that didnt totally strip out but it ruined the threads on the head bolt itself. I just replaced it with another headbolt.

If that isnt the case, You might want to try a heli coil. I dont know where you would find another headbolt thaty would be the proper dimension but one size bigger....

Good luck!!

You may opt for something called a Keensert. It is similar to a helicoil, but it is stronger. You drill an tap with a special tap, and then you install the keensert. Once it is installed to the depth that you want, you tap in 2 keys that lock it into the freshly taped hole. Do a goodle search on the keyword keensert.

It's hard to imagine it is the block that failed. Isn't it hardened steel to the max? If it was your block, I'm sure a deburring company would be able to take care of it...
