Help with my 2V

Just went to start the Corty up today as its been sitting for 6 months.
Besides the battery being flat ive hit a few hurdles.

Its running rough as guts and not making power :(

So far ive changed the plugs as the old ones were black due to the holley being real rich and with only six months of driving it daily you couldnt see the elctrode.
The jets are 68's which im guessing must be too big?
New set of leads and changed the fuel over with some nice fresh premium.
Still no good.

Static timed it after removing and checking the dizzy and its gear, got it right the second time as i must of got the exhaust stroke not the power one.
Started it again and it will only run with a lot of throttle and splatters terriblly.

Ive checked the pushrods and valve springs, retainers etc and everything seems fine.

While holding the throttle on to keep it running ive twisted the dizzy and it hasnt made to much difference, seemed that retarding it made it a little better at higher rpm. It was splattering through the carby and backfiring too.
Ive checked the order of the leads because it seems to be a timing/ignition issue.

Then the holley which doesnt have a throttle cable connected to it started pouring fuel down its own throat after shutting the engine off and the throttle was definatly seated and not open at all.
It was pouring fuel as if it was a drizzle from a garden hose after shutting it off.

Ive never had so many problems in one day and ive never seen a carby do that before. It was odd. So now im thinking ive burnt out some valves or something stupid and obvious.

Any help would be appriciated as its doing my head in.
Cheers Steve

I forgot to add that i havent done a compression test yet but the motor is only 2,000km old and turns over by hand, nice and tight with the plugs in and i set the plug gaps to 1.1mm.

quick guess would be to check the power valve in your holley might have dried out or broken after all the backfiring

No Deuche this time.

Steve, I reckon you're still firing on the wrong stroke, or you've been playing with other motors and set your firing order back to front on the cap.

Cheers for the help. I havent had time so far to get back to it so ill play with it all tomorrow.

A mate said i might've put the dizzy back in the wrond way 180 degrees.
Ill try that as that will sort out my firing on the wrong stroke prob.

Addo ive got the firing order right, I've only ever played around with inline fords and my one and only V8 which was in a Corty anyway

This years resolution is to build up my first motor so i can learn properly WTF is going on and why.
Its a free 200 log i scored with a 250 crank
Another quick question will this crank be ok to use if i get it linished as its been sitting in a shed for the past 5 years?

1-5-3-6-2-4

8-6-7-5-3-0-9

Cheers Steve

Brickie, don't lose that number...

Where's Paughano when you need him?

Timing goes clockwise when viewed from above, and if you need - to line up the TDC pointer on your balancer then pop off the rocker cover to see if both rockers for #1 are at top of their travel.

Nah not yet

I tried it all again and dtill popping through the carby and backfiring.

Im sure im missing something real stupid and ill kick myself when i find it, ive static tuned plenty of engines before most of them inline sixes.

My mate said i might have the dizzy in 180degree but it only goes in the way i have it. If you put it in 180 the dizzy cap clips foul on the block only allowing 10degree of turn on the dizzy for timing and his idea still doesnt make sense to me.

Do i need resistor spark plugs not sure if the ones i got are resistor type?

Cheers Steve

The dizzy can't be rotated 180 degrees. However the rotor inside can. The dizzy only turns half speed of the crank.

Cheers stubby, yeah i knew that but ive also double and tripple check it too.

All six leads are firing and all the pushrods and rocca gear is moving fine.
Ill try some more tomorrow. Cheers Steve
