holley weber 5200 question

Is there any difference from the holley weber 5200 mentioned in the handbook and the progressive carb sold over at stovebolt? thanks Ed

Stovebolt has been selling both a progressive 5200 series and the Carter Weber carb which I believe is a Synchronous 2Bbl.

The 5200 is a series of carbs so it is the same carb as in the Schjeldahl brothers "Handbook". Depending on the application it may have different linkage, vac ports, and jetting. Give Mr. Langdon of Stoveblt a call and he can best explain.

Used on many different size engines, the 5200 is an excellent peformer if it set up correctly. There are miles of info in the forum under "Holley Weber 32/36 jetting tips"

Thanks I am putting a 78 head on my 68 block. Which carb is the most straight foward one to use? I am new to this hobby and I don't want to get in over my Head!

The 5200 is not the friendliest Carb to get right. There are other 1Bbl options like the Carter YF used on 300's and the 2Bbl Holley 2300 series.

I have two 5200's. One ran great "out of the box" , the other I've never gotten right.

Read the Forum sticky as mentioned and have fun...

Is the carter pretty much a straight bolt on or are there a lot of mods required? Thanks Ed

I'm pretty sure the Stovebolt Carter is essentially a Weber DGV, while the 5200 is a Weber DFV, which is a mirror-image of the DGV.

What that means to you is that the Carter (DGV) will have the throttle on the 'wrong' side and going the 'wrong' way for you to use anything but a throttle cable, plus the choke will also be at the other side of the carb.

The DFAV / 5200 will go on with the adapter, the choke will be to the rear, and you can often use the stock throttle linkage with little/no modding.

Best bet is to call Tom at Stovebolt, tell him you were referred by the fordsix guys, and visit with him.

Check out these two threads on what I've done with my 5200 / DFAV:
