how fast can these things go?

Ah yes, from the old oath about "...the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. So help me Bob."

A while ago before I rebuilt my front suspension I was at 95ish (headers but no pertronix) and could have kept going but my front end was all over the place (up, down, side to side) so I decided to slow down plus I was running out of room. I havent gotten the car aligned yet so anything over 60 and there is a lot of vibration.

When i had my 2.77 3 speed i got it up to 90
today with my T-5 i had it up to 85, i was only at 2650 rpms. The reason i slowed down is because ran out of room and started getting scared because it was getting hard to control because of the wind

A while back I took my'68 out on the highway, must have been about the same time Montana didnt have a speed limit... and ran it up to around 100mph. The 250+38 was screaming with a C4 and 3.00 gears. The front end was sort of drifting back and forth, I really hate Ford factory power steering. The front end has new upper and lower control arms, the control vavle and slave cylinder had just been replaced, also the brakes were recently rebuilt, new cylinders, shoes, and attaching hardware. The slowdown was just as hairy, drum brakes are not optimal for 0-100-0 blasts.

The power steering is probably not so much at fault as improper front end alignment. There is a setting for manual and one for power. The manual setting on a PS unit will give you prematurely grey hair, as it is intended to make it easier to turn. I had a 69 Cougar, 351, which had a damaged power steering ram. I thought I had an alignment problem, and had a super fine job done. When I replaced the ram/cylinder, you could go past 100 and take your hands off the wheel. It was rock steady. My 66 was unsteady at 75, until I put in the Export brace, 1" sway bar, and a good alignment. Now, it cruises at 90 with no sweat, except for the wife sitting next to me. Oh, yeah, and the smokies.

I hit 90mph. But it took me forever to reach it. I was confident since I have my brakes rebuilt.

Nowadays, I'm driving between 30-40mph. Nothing to prove.

i am not sure if his speedo was f#%ked up or not but i was rideing to a car show with him (i think we will call him Bob :) ) in his 66 mustang with a 200 and a 3 speed and the speedo was reading 140mph it sure took its time getting their.

8) My parents had a 1964 Comet, with a 170. Got it up to 90 and not much was left in that bone stock 170 to do more. We're talking back in 1968 too.

My TC Cortina 200ci with a Borg Warner 35, with just extractors and cold air intake did over 100mph with 2 people on board and stuff in the boot. Was pretty proud of that. Legend has it that previous owner had it to over 105mph with 5 people on board. Indicated speeds. Engine at 4500 with 2.92:1 rear end. Again the legend says that 250 2v Cortinas could top 140mph, but that doesnt sound right to me although Id like to believe it. Id say more like 130mph.

OK, at the risk of exposing myself of owning a few Hondas in my past (I own 4 Fords and one Honda guys, so don't call me a ricer- the Honda isn't even modified), I thought I'd show some pics.

You see, years ago I got my 68 Mustang with the modified 200 six (the one in my signature) up around 110 but had no proof for my buddies except my white knuckles (the steering got real scary at that speed- like the front wheels weren't hardly on the ground). As I remember those last 10 mph took as long to gain as the first 100 mph.

Anyway, none of my friends believed I got the six up that fast, so later on I got the bright idea to just rest a camera on the steering wheel and snap a picture of the speedometer at speed (maybe without flash would have worked better). I haven't done the high speed thing wiith my Mustang since those old days, but here's what I did in a 1990 Honda Accord with automatic (top pic), and later on with a 1992 Honda Accord with a 5-speed (bottom 2 pics). I think it took me about a minute to gain those 10 mph between the 2nd and 3rd pic.

So while I certainly wouldn't encourage anyone to do anything illegal, I'd like to see some pics of classic Ford speedos at speed!

Kelly's had her Falcon up to 109 in the quarter mile. :D
If the quartermile was another 100' long she'd easily reach 115mph!
She's running something like 88mph in the 1/8th.

Later,
Will

I know I have had my 66 falcon over 100 several times and I am pretty sure I have topped 110 but I would not swear to it. That was before headers, with my 200 I6 and C4 somewhere in southern california where I was still getting passed going 100.

I did 95-100mph easily on my way to El Paso last year with stock 200 and 3.03 with 3.55 rear averaged 4200 RPM. I now have MSD, bypassed heater to carb hoses. T-5, 6-2 dual exhaust, and same 3.55 rear. I hit 95 at 3800 Rpm easily. I havn't went faster due to the old drum brakes but You guys have me motivated to get out the digital camera and really hit it HARD. I do all this with a 1.5 inch single barrel Carburator?

What's going to happen when I get the offenhauser with three ICH Webers and the bigger cam shaft?

I made it to 97 mph in about a mile and a half 3.50 in the rear and a c4 with 175/70 13". It could have gone much faster but I personaly like my cast pistons in one piece. Engine specs are below plus the cam is dialed in at 107 not at 106.

I'm sorry, but I have to say this:

Let's see....gravity is 9.8m per second. How high is your cliff?
