How many CFM

Alright I am trying to figue out exactly which 2bbl I want to go with on my car, and I was wondernig how big/s,mall of a carb should I be looking for as far as CFM goes. I know that too big and I will loose throttle response, too small and I will not be getting the full advantage of a 2bbl. So what are your thoughts on this. I am thinking somewhere in the 250-300 CFM range.

I have a very hopped up 200 and am running a 2100/108 (287 cfm)and when i occasionally disconnect my 2 out board carbs and run off just the 1 center 2100 it will easily support 5,000+ rpm. The trouble with a larger carb is the loss of velocity resulting in lower peformance at lower rpm. For drag racing the largest that your engine will handle is the way to go. But that same combo sucks for normal driving conditions as it responds poorly under 4,000 rpm. This is one reason the tri carb setup and progressive 2BBL's/4BBL,s work so good, as when you are at low rpm and normal throttle you have a good mix with good velocity, For all around drivability and performance on a stock 200 i would use a 102 or 108. which of course are the hardest to find LOL. Now remember this is a atatement of what I would use- you do whatever you care to-just sharing an old farts experience.
My second car was a 66 Falcon that i bought 3 years old and i was 18.(paid $600 pristineW/ <30,000 miles on it)

Howdy,

I kind of liked danwagon's answer. For a "fully modified" engine use a bigger carbs, but the 1.08 will still let it rev nicely --- As your signature says, "Bone stock w/ DSII" which probably calls for a 1.08 at 287 cfm. After your one-barrel, it will be a wonderful change.

The 1.14 is 300 cfm and the 1.21 is 351 cfm. With a cam and headers and compression; then use a 350 Holley or 351 Autolite. The nice thing about the carbs is that once you have the adapter in place, they are SO EASY to change.

I get 27 mpg (at steady 65 mph) with cam, headers, compression, DSII, and Autolite 1.21, T-5 and 3.50 rear gear.

Good Luck

Yeah I guess the root of the question is 1.08 or 1.14, or maybe the H/W 5200, but they seem a bit limited on the CFM (planning for future mods). Howevere there are a couple of cheap ones sitting on evilbay right now and the adapter is cheap. So many decisions, I guess I just need to get another car so I can go more than one direction!
