How to remove a distributor from a 170?

Hey All,
Well it has been along time since i've been one here ( been busy with school and working on my car and such ) I was wondering if anybody here knows how to remove the distributor on a 170?? i realized i can't remove the cam without removing the distributor? If anybody could let me know that would be great!! Thanks.

Should be a hold down on the bottom of the distributor that is held in place with a (1/2" bolt?), remove the bolt, take off the hold down and it should just come out. Probably should make some marks so you know how to reinstall the distributor.
 
oh ok i'll go try that and i'll make marks so it'll go back in straight. thanks for the reply and i'll post back when i get it off.

I hope you pulled the dizzy cap off and marked where the rotor was pointing befor and after you pulled the dizzy. :shock: and not just marked the out side of the dizzy?? (you not knowing how to remove the dizzy has me worred on this)
What I would have done was put the motor at TDC, pulled the cap and marked where the rotor was pointing (should have been the #1 plug wire in the cap).
Anyway it doesn't realy matter as long as when you put it back together you have the gears lined up at TDC (crank and cam) then when you put the dizzy back in make sure the rotor is pointing at the #1 wire in the cap when you put the dizzy back in and you should be ok.. because the dizzy gear is cut on a angle the rotor well turn as you put it back in the same as it turned when you pulled it out...

the dizzy?? i'm a little confused, all i know is that i didn't spin anything i'm guessing "dizzy" is as an the gear on the bottom of the distributor?!? please let me know.

oh ya another thing. the only thing left in the engine was the distributor and the cam cuz i'm doing a rebuild. Well thanks and i hope i get it goin when i put it back together.
