Remember however, a hone is not for boring. They are two different things.
If your cylinders are out of round or have any ridging on top or scratches/pitting in the wall, then they need to be bored as well as honed.
The hone is only to break what is called the "glaze" off the cylinder walls when installing new rings in an attempt to get the rings to seat. What it really does is sand the cylinder walls to the correct surface roughness.
The machine shop will follow up with a hone after you get the block bored. It's a finishing step.
