Hey Everyone!! Well i took my 170 to the machine shop today ( doing a rebuild ) Long story short, I was told by the guy at the machince shop i will need to atleast bore it 0.60 overbore and will need to get a master rebuild kit ( pistons, rods, crank etc. ) I was wondering what you think?? Well i was wondering if you know of anybody that has forged refurb-kits for this or what brand to do you think i should get ( parts wise ) I found some clevite .60 over pistons on ebay for $56 in the box. If you could let me know what you think that would be great. My original plan was to do a turbo i'm thinking twice about it now

Hay jon
Mayby look into a swap from a newer car.. the 170 and alot of 200 are a direct swap and some 250's with some mods. Check your wrecking yards. for running motors.

What do you think about a 300ci efi?? Well i found a kit to convert your round body falcon to a 300. Well ya let me know what you think. I saw a 300ci in a 80's ford van at the local -pick-n-pull. Bye~Bye

- Jon

a kit?
pardon me if i'm a little skeptical...

you sure it wasn't for a V8? cause i doubt the 300 is a popular enough swap to want to make a kit for
however, if there is a kit, and you can easily afford it, go for it, you'll love your new friend Mr. Torque

could you tell us what it contains?

From what I've heard the 300 is to long.. and maybe a bit tall, but it can be done if you move the raditor in front of the raditor support.

Hey!! Well i can't remember where it was so i gotta go to try and find it  But ya i'm shure it was for a 300 not a 302. Well when i find it again i'll post what i find here. I think it was on ebay, but for some reason can't remember

Well I found where i read it and... here is a quote and a link but i can't find anymore info than that.
If you have a passion for Ford sixes and want to spank your buddies at the traffic light, consider the installation of a 300 six in your Mustang or Falcon. Why? With special engine mounts, Clifford makes it possible to drop a 240 or 300ci six into your Ford compact with hood clearance to spare. So what's available for the 240/300ci six from Clifford? Plenty! Five differ- ent manifolds--two fours, three twos, one four, one two, and two twos. Cast-aluminum valve covers. Custom-forged pistons. Mallory ignition. High-performance oil and water pumps. Even forged crankshafts. Ultimately, you can achieve 600 hp and 7,000 rpm with a 300ci Ford six. Just imagine the possibilities in your sleeper street car.
Do you think i should email them and see if they still make them or what?? Well let me know what you think.

ahh... good ole Clifford
i remember reading that article when it came out, i immediately went to the website to see where i could find it...
i never did, and i doubt they ever made one...

you could email them, but i doubt they'd tell you that it's ready for sale (if they say they're even working on it)

Cliford is a good source of performance parts for are 6's so Call and see if they have it going.. as well as some of the others on this site.

I remember seeing it somewhere else but it wasn't a kit it was just motor mounts for it to put it in my falcon. Well thanks guys and i'll post something if i get an email back or not.

Clifford use to sell motormounts and the headers for the swap aswell,But that was along time ago.that article IIRC was in Mustang & Fords when Jay Couch was working there.I also seem to remeber someone on the forum had come across prints of basicaly the same motor mounts on the web somewhere. If I'm not mistaken that post was lost when the Forums crashed a few years ago.

I've got some drawings that I recieved from a member before he left the forum. I can't say that I am impressed with the engineering of the thing though. I would ask nckwiencek if he could post more about his motor mounts before i would invest any time/money into building ones like the sketches I have.

Are you guys sure Clifford ever sold the motor mounts? I thought we had a member on here for a while that said he had worked on a project with them but it was never completed/went to manufacture. I wouldnt think that you should need headers either, the split EFI manifolds would probably work just fine.

Hey! Well i just got an email back from Larry at Clifford and he said that i guess they made them but only a few... he said i should just go with a 200 idk though. Well there is a member here selling a 200 out of a 70 ( granada? ) it has 80k miles on it. Do you think it would be a good idea to buy that?? I think he wants around $100 for it and it runs. It's still in the car. Well please let me know what you think.

- Jon

a running motor for $100 sounds like a good deal, any chance you can hear it run. Put oil pressure gauge on it, and maybe test compression before it is pulled (better to know about problems BEFORE you buy). Even with a few minor problems (headgasket, or needs a valve job) the price still sounds pretty fair. 30 more cubes then your 170 (17% size increase) and should have the stronger 7 main bearing bottom end.

I just put a 200 in mine and even stock I can tell the difference. It was an easy swap too, I just dropped it in and started it up. the 7 main would be better for a turbo anyway.

Thanks fo the input guys. Well i should be getting an email from him tonight ,and ya he said i can hear it run if i want but i wanna check to see how bad the ridge is in the cylinder walls. I would rather do the turbo on the 200 so if for some reason i grenade it i didn't have ALOT of $$ in it. Thanks for the help.
