Just got the autolite 2100 in the 170 yesterday and fires it up bad news is it is idling at at least 4000 rpm, had to cut it off cause I was scared I'd hurt it, what needs to happen to bring it back down? I'm not really mechanically inclines so explain it to me like i'm 5 years old

8) firs thing to do is make sure that there is no interference between the carb, and the carb adapter. i had an issue with mine which required some work with a small grinding wheel to make sure i had enough clearance between the throttle linkage and the adapter. next make sure the idle speed screw is set to its lowest setting, and set your idle mixture screws at 1 1/2 turns from their seat. the next thing to do is make sure the fast idle cam is not engaged, and that the choke is wide open. if you still have an idle speed too high, back your timing down a bit, and check for accelerator linkage binding.

Howdy Back Galaxie:

Check the linkage first. Are you adapting the mechanical linkage from the '63 Comet? Rbohm lined out the other possibilities.

Good Luck.

Adios, David

would you belive I had the return spring on backwards, instead of being at idle it was at full throttle, turned it around still a little high but nothing like it was. BTW converting to throttle cable using one out of a 1994 T-bird along with the T-Bird gas pedal
thanks all
