ignition module placement

I made the duraspark II ignition system changeover on a 68 mustang.
Where do people place the ignition module? Hopefully a place with no drilling so it can be converted back to original.
Is it necessary for the module to be in contact with a large metal surface for heat dissipation (the car runs just fine with the module temporarily strapped to the export brace, even with spark plug wires 2 and 5 swapped  )?

For anyone who does this conversion on a 67 or 68, the connector
you will be interested in is 4-pin, black, and rectangular which is located next to the air vent in the drivers side foot well. the thick, pink resistor wire coming from the ignition switch and going to this connector, is the wire mustang steve's diagram shows should be disconnected and replaced with a normal 16 gauge red wire. The red with green stripe wire that goes to the plus side of the coil is connected to the same pin as the pink resistor wire. I just jumpered in a wire at the ignition switch and at the connector, leaving the pink wire in place to provide an easy conversion back to points.

I put mine in forward of the window washer fluid bag. I have seen many people put it there I guess since it is close to the distributor. I did have to drill new holes to mount it though.

It's not a Duraspark, but after I mounted it on a large heatsink it's just about the same size - I mounted my GM HEI module on the underside of the driver's side export brace. You've got to look for it to see it.

I don't think the DuraSpark modules need to be flat on the fender for a heat sink - at least I haven't heard anybody say that a heatsink is an issue for them.

I have my duraspark module strapped under the drivers side export brace. Unfortanetly, you can see it clearly! It is a big module which is probably why there is not a heat sink problem!

I first ran mine zip tied to my shock tower brace. as big as they are I think they have enough surface area to cool themselves.

note: that they are not finned like a heat critical part would be designed or with a direct connect mounting setup like a TFI module

How about beside the radiator on the backside of the rad support? Or if you really wanted to hide it, under the battery.

Has he got the ford module or GM? The Gm one needs to be on some sort of a heat sink and grounds through the mounting , the ford one sinks through the case and has a ground wire in the harness, not sure if it needs to ground on the case also. I dont think there are any real issues running longer wires as long as you use a decent size so you can put the module anywhere you want to. I did the GM module with the computer heat sink and stuck it on the shock brace like turbo fairlane did. It olny stands out because its clean unlike everything else under the hood.

Fairmonts have them in front of the driver side fender. Don't know if that's an option on your car though.
