because I had the vacuum lines BACKWARDS, giving advance and RETARD at the wrong times...

hard to tune a carbuerator like that...hard to get a fast idle...

all right......I am sorry for wasting everyones time

Chaz

yes...I do have to adjust a little more, but it starts...and CATCHES on a slight faster idle (needs tweaking)

and it seems to be much smooth, quieter and faster

lets see if gas milage jumps

(damn I knew I wasnt sure about vacuum...thats why I asked)

 Way to go chaz I knew you'd figure it out. It was kind of like :bang: wasn't it.... and was almost like :deadhorse:
Now its time for  and :nox:
Don't worry about all the questions thats what were here for
OOOHHHH but next time :stick: bad chaz, bad chaz.

I feel your pain. I just replaced the carpeting in the Falcon, and there's nothing like realizing after you have it all trimmed and buttoned up that you forgot to mark/cut the holes where the seat bolts pass through.

or when you mechanic pulled up the front carpet when changing cluch and didnt ALIGN the seat bolts thru existing holes on one side, thus creating a BULGE in the middle

d'oh

trying to divert attention from own mistake

or rebuilding a 200 engine to drop in your car only to realize that you had a 250....

Glad you got it sorted out!

not to be a smart ass - but how did you do that? how was it hooked up before??

(i'd like to ensure that i haven't done the same!)

Sorry, you still don't top the reason I have my nickname. Close though:

I don't see the problem - you got the big holes to line up. 8)

an update to redeem myself. I just adjusted the timing even more...and its running way smoother...I will keep advancing it till I hear pinging...

I am also trying to improve gas milage

I have done some damage over time.....this was result of a blown head gasket

Yeah...that's what threw us too. It didn't help that the guy that was helping me had never even touched an I6, he was only a V-8 guy. Didn't figure out it was a problem until I filled the coolant system up the next day and coolant started pouring out all over the engine. I called it my 'external' cooling system.

yikes

well, I have now adjusted my timing even more and my temp has gone down even more

seems the mechanic did NOT put it at 14 degrees as I asked

Lemme add one:
just welded in a new driver side floor pan in the stang. Then realized I forgot the seat belt mount. :(
