I just bought a 72 250 I6 W/C4 tranny, # Spd. Auto, to put into my 70 maverick. Does anybody know the stock #'s the 250 has? (HP and Torque) Next thing, Not sure If I am going to rebuild the carb it has now, or buy a new carb. If I buy a new one, what would be my best bet? This motor is going into a daily drive. I want a carb that gives a little more performance than stock but dont want to pay out the roof for one! Next, How much and where can I find the DUI Dizzy? And who has good performance plugs and wires?

So in recap, LOL,
1. HP & Torque #'s
2. Carb options
3. Distributor
4. Plugs & Wires

Thanx in advance for your input!!!

u can find the DUI at www.classicinlines.com not sure on the HP and torque rating i would stick with stock plugs seeing as u wont be doing much motor work just gap them a little more when u put the DUI in and i would recommend a small 2brl carb with an adapter

Howdy Mav:

The '72 250 is rated at 95 Hp @ 3600, 181 Ft Lbs @ 1600. The CR on a '72 is listed at 8:1.

For comparison your '70 250 is rated at 155 Hp @ 4000, 240 Ft Lbs @ 1600. The CR on a '72 is listed at 9:1.

The big difference is attributable to FoMoCo changing from gross power ratings to net, or rear wheel ratings. The reduction in CR (If any really happened) is accountable for 3% to 7% loss. In close inspections there is no decernable difference between a '70 and a '72 250. All compression measurements are even very similiar, certainly not a whole point less. It is truly amazing what a Detroit ad man can do with smoke and mirrors.

The 1st changes in 250 cam timing begin to appear during the '72 model year, so no tellin' what you have there.

The stock OEM Carter RBS, rated at 215 cfm, is a good reliable carb. There is not, to my knowledge, a better one barrel choice, given your criteria. If the throttle shaft is reasonable tight, your best bet (Cheapest and most reliable) is to rebuild it yourself. Be sure to bump your initial about 5 degrees more then stock calls for.

Mike has the DUI systems for your engine. He should be able to fix you up with wires too.

Enjoy!

Adios, David

Thanx David, The only problem with the numbers you gave me, was the fact that I forgot to mention that the 70 has the 200 CID. :D

But you answered with what I needed to know about the 72 250 and thank you! I know there is a site I went to before that gave me all that info but I can't seem to find it now.
