Im not looking to get a monster ammount of hp out of my 200, but what should I do as the most effective ways to gain a few?
Is a nice carb the best?
air filter?
exhaust?
any info will be greatly appreciated
thanks

I'd start buy ripping out yer pollution control system(airpump/egrvalve) this really starves the six's performance. Takeoff yer cat or even hollow it out.. I dont really know how much money yer willing to spend.. but if your willing to spend quite a bit, the aussie 2v head+2 barrel holley 350+dual out headers, increase performance roughly %40-50. That right theres gonna run you around $1050.. Are you can just get the dual out headers $255, get a bolt on 1 barrel to 2 barrel adaptor, get some headwork done, oversized valves etc.. and you'll get some nice performance outta that and alot cheaper.

also swithcing to electric fan can eliminate alot of parastic lag, give you 5-10hp and even 10-15torque, you really notice a difference when accelerating and top end.. it really gives you that opening up feel like yer motor isnt so limited.. also electric waterpump/fuel pump helps alot.. kinda makes me wonder why these motors were made with 1 barrels in the first place? even my 85 nissan pulsar has a 97cu 4cylinder and has a 2 barrel.

Hey, pa;
You didn't mention what car you have.
If it's a late '70s or early '80s version of this engine, there are quite a few emission controls, which cost you about 8 HP total loss. However, simply killing the EGR on these engines will leave you with a rich-running engine, which will plug and overheat your catalytic converter. These things work together and need to be either removed completely, including the carb, or modified to reduce the losses - to prevent the Emissions Cops from taking you down, if nothing else.

If you have an earlier version, there is plenty of cheap HP available. Get the Falcon Performance Handbook from CZLN6 (Dave) and you'll have a GREAT time of it!
