Hey Guys. I have been stalking around on this board for a few months getting all the info I could find and ya'll have been a real help. I finally have a problem though that I can't find addressed on the forum and need some advice. Offy is no longer making the Offy 5970 intake for the Ford 200. Apparently there is a problem with a supplier of the linkage. Anyway, I am now looking for some options for the intake. Any help that ya'll can throw my way would be appreciated.

Thanks

Howdy Back Matt:

Are you committed to the Offy 3x1 setup or are you exploring other options? Several here on the Forum have made their own 3X1 setups complete with linkage.

We've gone to wide base two barrel carbs mounted directly to a modified log, with good results. This allows you to use either the 2100 Autolite or the Holley 2300 two barrel carbs.

HOw about some more info on your goals and intent?

Adios, David

Thanks for the suggestion on buying the aluminum head... why didn't I think of that? 8)

To answer your question David, I am not committed to the Offy. I thought it looked good and that it was available. My hope is that the engine will be a fun streetable engine that can stick you in the seat from a stop and still perform well when passing someone on one of these little two lane highways. Sorry that isn't real specific I guess.

Right now I have had the cylinders bored .04 and I have bought the "engine package" from Clifford. New Cam (sorry don't have the numbers in front of me), modified head (later I read some people here aren't the biggest fan of it) and 1.6 rocker arms.

When I bought the car it didn't have the head/intake manifold on it. I wasn't concern as I had planned to scrap it and put in a V8. Luckily, I decided against building another "luke warm" V8 Mustang and now I am trying to build something a little more unique.

Again any advice is appreciated.

Matt, it sounds as if your goals are fairly modest. You've got a good start, add in a header, free flowing exhaust, and a progressive 2bbl carb and you should hit your goal.

yea. Thanks. I feel pretty good about where I am as far as building my first inline but I am still trying to find some options for the intake. I bought the head but everything I have found is either "modify the stock head/intake" which I never had or use the Offy, which is no longer in production. Any suggestions would be helpful...

thanks
Matt

Thanks for the link. THat is where I started the search. :)
They don't have them in stock. They are saying another 2 months before they have any but I have already been waiting 5 months. I talked to another guy who specializeds in Offy parts who says that Offy can't get a supplier for some type of linkage and hasn't made that Offy in "a while".

Thanks though
Matt

Here is the email copy and paste style

Matt,

Thanks for the email. Summit is correct. Offenhauser is trying to find a supplier for one of the linkage components. Until they do, Offenhauser has stopped production of the 5970 manifold. I believe it will be longer than 2 months, as it has been over a year and a half since they did a run on that manifold. Sorry for the bad news.

Howdy Back Matt:

YOur options will depend on what year head you are working with. The casting code is on top of the intake log, behind the carb mounting flange.

It would also be helpful to know which distributor you will be working with?

Basically, Your options are-
* a larger one barrel like the Autolite 1101, which is available with both a SCV and no SCV.
*a two barrel with an adaptor. Your choice of two barrels breaks into two groups; a two stage Holley/Weber 5200 or a wide base Holley 2300 or Autolite 2100. Adaptor are available for each. Both would require some fabrication for linkage, fuel lines, and air cleaner. Both could cause hood clearance problems. Adaptors are available from several sources. Direct mounting a two barrel to a modified stock log manifold eliminates the clearance issue, and potentially offers more/better performance by eliminating the bottleneck of the funnel adaptor.

All of the above options have been used by forum members here and material is available by doing a search.

Thanks all for your help. After getting a couple of posts from ya'll I figured I must be missing something. I figured it out this morning. THanks for your help and patience....

You must realise that the triple intakes still require modifications. You must cut holes and seal the intake to the log.

You can do some searching and read about some of the hurdles other members had to clear.
