I always have the same probably stupid thought whenever I see someone custom crafting a way to get more air into these relatively restrictive cast-in intake manifolds. The front and rear cylinder intakes are especially far removed from the single centered intake, and tend to be starved for air and gas. Has anyone ever used the plugged openings in the ends of the log to let some more air in? Having that sort of plenum sitting up above the log is halfway there already. Run some tubes from the front and back of that plenum above the log and U-turn back into the log ends. Yes, it's hardly the most efficient path with those bends, but it should be better than no path. Maybe it would work well enough that the center inlet opening wouldn't need all that machine work to enlarge it, and it could be more or less a bolt on kit. Let the laughter begin...
