Iridium?

Hello, i am fairly new to the posting side of these forums. I have to say that i love this website more than any other i have ever used. i started my 63 Fairlane with full intention of going 289, but i did not realize how much potential the lil 170 has. the engine is fully rebuilt with a .040 bore and the carb finally crapped out the rest of the way. I fully intend now on keeping the 1 barrel carb on the car for quite a while and i would prefer to stay away from breaking down the engine again for a year or two. i know the first thing i am going to do is upgrade to a full pertronix/flamethrower II setup with wires and some better plugs.

My question is weather or not anyone has used iridiums in their 6 and whether or not they have provided a gain. i know my impala requires them and when you dont' use them you will notice at the pump and on ramp, but i have no clue whether they would provide any help at all.

Thanks,
Gerald

I used them in my Ford Probe Turbo and I'm using them now on by T-Bird 302. And I really love them, noticable improvement!

These work great, NGK WR51X 7510 iridium plugs gapped @ .050.

Thank You for the help. i was just not very sure if the extra bucks would be worth either life or performance. Before my carb blew out i got about 22 mph with a 3.5 rear 3 on the tree and after inspection found out that i was running a very lean mixture. so i hope that the new plugs and revamped carb and ignition will help with the giddyup that the car already has.
