my car idles at 750 rpms when i start it and let it run but when i put it in drive or reverse it drops down to between 250 and 500 rpms but usually closer to 250. is this normal? if not can someone help?
Its normal for an automatic to cause a drop in rpm when you put them in gear.. Most of the time the idle on an automatic is set with the park brake on and the tranny in gear then set it at I'd say around 650 in gear and motor at operating temp. I'm not sure of the older automatics but check if there is a vacuum line to it make sure its not leaking vacuum and in good order..
