Is it safe to go a little over 3k

Hey all,
Last night my friend and I were driving around and my odometer clikced to just over 116,100 miles. I took the engine apart at 113,721 miles. After the motor was rebuilt, my dad and I put a new oil filter on and put fresh oil in and we ran the engine for about 30 minutes ( I know, it's supposed to be 15), shut it down, drained the oil, put another new filter on and put more fresh oil in it. I was planning to put synthetic oil in after 3000 miles since I've been told repeatedly do not use synthetic until the cam is broken in and I should wait 3000 miles to do that. However, after my parents and I got back from TN in July, my dad and I retimed the cam and everything and I've been wondering because we did that if I should wait a little longer to put the synthetic in. I was thinking of putting the synthetic in at 117,000 miles (279 miles over the 3k mark). Right now I'm running Pennzoil 5w-30 with the motorcraft filter.
What thoughts do you guys have? Also, I already have the oil taken care of but any suggestions for a filter?

Go ahead and run synthetic in it if thats what you want. I've personally never had a problem just running 10W-30. My 250 is 32 years old and has 99,700 miles on it and still runs great. It's been ran on nothing but Castrol 10W-30 since new according to the previous owner.

the synthethic after 3,000 miles is only for the rings to seat in, you can run synthetic since the rings have mucho miles already.

Linc's 200,
The rings are brand new as well, the engine was entirely rebuilt so even the rings have less than 3k miles on them.
Is it still safe to run synthetic though?

Also, does anyone have oil filter recommendations?

Motorcraft filters are quite good for filters in the ~$5 range. That's what I usually use on the Falcon and the GL Taurus.

I run Mobil 1 or K&N filters on the SHO, but that's because that engine has a very high-flow oil system. Otherwise, I'm not sure you want to go spending >$10 filter for an engine that doesn't really need it.

Those Napa "gold" filters are really good. They're actually made by Wix or Purolator, cant remember which. Seen several tests and they always come out near the top, despite their price.
