anyone had any experience Jaycar programable ignition and hei.....

what are your experiences with it : intallation, running, seteup reliability???

also what type of ignition advance curve or advance figures are suitale for an OHC six , straight gas .T04 turbo and extralarge i-cooler. any ideas??????? :?: :?:

Always wanted to try it but never did! I think it will work ok.

One good option is to set it up for ignition retard under boost. To do this you need a boost pressure switch connected to the vacuum advance input of the kit. Now when you program the vacuum advance, you will be actually programming the amount of retard you want.

You must be careful when setting up the main curve as you must take into account the amount vacuum advance that you specified.

Thanks , i was thinking of something allong those lines too.

what im really having difficulty with is the figures eg base advance wahat type of curve , how much after boost, and how much for the peak????

inything would be good for a base mapp that i could further improve on ..dont want to sscrap the engine on run in!!!

any ideas on these settings would be monumental!

i was thinking 4-5 deg base advance to 1300rpm, then slope up to 9deg 2500, then set boost advance slope till 3700-4000 for 15-16deg .. it should start to make boost by 2500 and a bit full boost by 4000. peak adv 15- 18 deg. is that any good for a base map i can further enhance???

George, that image linking won't work (from your C: drive). It has to hosted on a server that allows linking.

For a guaranteed answer on you ignition curve you will need to contact specialist like ICE or Ignition Developments. BUT, If you are like me you will do it yourself, just for fun.

The following is what I would do if I had your engine (Please don't do it because I said so)
I would first setup the ignition curve similar to the standard engine up unit 3-4 PSI. I would then trigger the advance/retard input to retard the timing by ?? DEG (This will depend on the amount of boost you run ) I have been told to retard the timing about 1Deg for every 1PSI of boost (You may need more).
Because of the lower comp and LPG, you should be able to run higher timing on idle to give you better response and quicker cool down for your turbo after a run.

I take no resposibility for the info I have given you as I am not an expert or mechanic. :?

I am thinking of doing one of those ignitions for my Peugeot. Any good?

NO! Leave that to me  .......
I nuked the auto on my cortina over the weekend just for fun :P

Like I said, I'm no expert when it comes to ignition curves so feel free to laugh at me

If you want it done properly, ask someone else...If you want it done ASAP, ask me.

I have used the same timing approach on my 250 with good results.

How is your project going anyway? Do you have pictures?

my project , xd with ohc turbous.

unfotunately its prettymuch a parts collective at the moment. i study and cant find time to put it all together and cant afford to get someone to put it together... the head is an ablolute prick.

can set pics of my piles of parts

hey geoge what turbo are you running , tring to find power and boost capabilities of mine . to4 .64 comp 1.32 turbine housings,, i think its a p or s/ q trim wheels..

george is that your purple corti i see doing that b'out, have you been able to get a decent hard launch or doest it have trouble putting it down :?:

Mr B,

The purple junk is mine. I have a set of G60 tyres for the track but on the street there is no way of taking off without wheelspin.

The turbo you have should be good for over 400Hp. It is actually bigger than mine, I have a 1.0 A/R split pulse turbine housing, .6 A/R compressor, S trim. Yours might need a few more revs to spool up, but once it does, HOLD ON!!

My advise is to get someone to put together the bottom end for you, then you do the rest! Learning is half the fun.

Hey george,
Are you using the jaycar programmable ignition to run all those coils?
Or is this for a differnt project?

At the moment i've been looking into a suitable and cheap ignition setup to convert my XF EFI to straight LPG and removal of the whole EFI system.

I'm leaning towards using an early XF carby dizzy (the non-computer controlled type), but I'm always open for options, and those 6 coils look awesome. ;)

Cheers.
Paul

Hi Paul,

I am not using this kit. I am using the wolf3d for ignition control.

If you are going to use this kit, then use the xf injected dizzy wich doesn't have machanical advance..

Twist a few wires together and shill be right.

hey pumbaplus, what mounts are you using to get the ohc engine in the xd, custom or something factory?

sounds like a sweet project anyway man :)
