Kelly's '63 TurboFalcon Dyno Results

I have been trying to come up with a way to use a dual advance with some check vlave and vac line trickery to retard it under boost. I think I can get it to work but just haven't sat down to thoroughly think it out.

Hello Will,

I am nearing completion of my turbocharged 200....just found this website tonight (I THOUGHT I was doing something UNIQUE! )

In a nutshell.... TO-4 turbocharged, 58mm,

What comprressor trim is that? 58MM should flow enough air for an easy 400 HP.....

I think the 200 in my old 70 maverick had a dual chamber vac advance cannister......it's long gone, so can't go look now. I think I remember correctly, though.

Say Will, what make/number plugs are you using? I can't seem to find colder 18mm taper seat plugs anywhere. I have seen the adapters that allow 14mm plugs, and am thinking of shelling out the $$$ for those.

If you want to retard timing under boost- get an MSD BTM (boost timing master). You can set the up & down advance / retard #s for just about any setup.

Linc's,
The plugs we're running are Autolite AR-33. They're a racing plug. They fit the standard plug hole and there are 2 heat ranges colder.
When you find them buy a case! I found a guy that just happened to have 6 new ones and about 20 used....I bought them all!

double congrats! and not to bug you, but have you figured out what it gets for mileage yet? just put 1 gallon into an empty tank and drive one mile at somewhere around 60 mph. pleeeese!!!!!!!!!!

With his tall gears and no overdrive, mileage won't be very good.

Which trim compressor (I see 58mm) do you have, Will?

yeah, i kinda figured since i know that he did have 4.56's in it but was fixin on dropping in some 4.10's. but i would still be interested anyways, mostly for plain curiosity. plus it would give me an idea for when (keyword: when) i finally get mine together.but mine will have a t5 and a bit taller gears since im leaning it more towards SCCA rather than NHRA,

hey will, have you put though towards some porting?

For the fuel milage question:
We took a trip to a car show back in Jan. Now back then we were running REALLY rich and using 3.89 gears. The distance was around 112 miles total. We had at least 11 gals on board. We ran out of gas about half way home on the return trip! :(
So at that time we were at like 9-10 mpg! No to good!
However I believe that now we're much better. Although we haven't really tested it yet.
Also if I put 1 gallon of gas in the tank, it wouldn't even fill the fuel lines! The fuel pickup in the tank is 1/2" in diameter!

Compressor trim question:
To be honest I don't even know! I bought the turbo used from a buddy of mine.

Porting question:
The head is ported. At much as I could with the log head anyway! But I wouldn't say that it's radically ported, just cleaned up.

Later,
Will

ewww, thats not that pretty of a number. i was hoping for 12-13 as radical as it is. i hope that its doing much better now.any of you other accomplished turbo guys (all 1 or 2 of you) know what your getting?, economy is pretty important to me right now.

Also I thought of another thing....
Our torque converter is fairly loose, 3500 stall. So that's not helping the fuel economy much at cruise speeds.
I would bet that with the new tune up and the soon to be installed 3.50 gears, we'll be in the neighborhood of 15mpg or so.
Later,
Will

You can also try Accel part # 0375, they're a $1.50

What do they compare with as far as heat range goes?

My car does great on gas. Untill you get your foot into it! I am not sure of the mpg but it is not bad on gas at all.

Dan

If your that worried about fuel economy, then just turn the boost all the way down when cruising around town, then fuel consumption goes down because you wont need any extra fuel than a NA motor...

My $.02

i do beleave that you are correct.

the thing is that i have always been under the understanding that a turbo vs. a NA engine will do better on gas if you can keep your foot out of it. and there are guys on this board that are claiming 20 mpg. the power a turbo just makes it that much better

when i drove my uncles little turbo'd dodge it would only boost when you were accelerating, not all the time. so then the power was only there when you needed it.

That is incorrect.
